Louise de la Valliere, French Antique Miniature Portrait

An antique French hand painted miniature portrait of Louise de la Valliere, Duchess of La Valliere. Likely painted in the 19th century, possibly earlier. Her name is printed on the back in cursive. The painting is signed in the lower left corner. The framing is in soft sanded wood with a dark finish. There is a scrape in the dark finish at the top of the frame and along the left edge. The inner frame is bronze. There is a protective glass cover on the painting. The painting may be on porcelain, but it is not known. The antique handing hardware is firmly on the back. The fine painting detail is exquisite. Size: 5 x 5.25". 

Louise de La Valliere (Aug 1644- June 6 1710) was a French noblewoman and the mistress of King Louis XIV of France from 1661 to 1667. She joined the Royal Court in 1661 as maid of honour to Henrietta of England. Two of her four children were by the King (late) Princess of Conti and (later) Count of Vermandois. (source: Wikipedia)
